What the heck is this amputee "devotee" and "wannabe" stuff all about? Is it for real? Does it exist? Whys does it exist?
if you are squeamish upset by new and different things. With the growth of the Internet, anyone doing a search on keyword "devotee" will find several thousand matches with accompanying websites.
I am making the following information available here to help amputees (like myself) understand what this phenomena is all about. I recently received an unsolicited email from somone who got me interested enough to look into investigating this whole phenomena. As shocking as it may seem at first, it does indeed exist. I am trying to come to terms with this devotee phenomena myself, sometimes broadly characterized as a form of "paraphilia".
At this point in time, I do not totally understand it or agree with it, but for now I think it is something real amputees should be aware of, possibly understood and not necessarily condemned. By including some of the links below, I am actually trying to expand everyone's knowledge on the subject (including my own), and to allow any and all readers of the ASA webpage to read through the information and draw their own conclusions.
