ALPS LOCKS Locking Devices
| Low-profile and lightweight, ALPS Locks provide security and comfort. The smooth portion of the shaft rides in a one-way bearing, while the gear portion is engaged by the serrations of the pin. For additional comfort (when sitting for extended periods, for example), the gear is easily disengaged from the pin by pushing a side-mounted release button. If foreign material or clothing becomes caught in the gear, simply loosen the pin-retaining housing to clear Jam. There is no need to cut the prosthesis. |
ALPS Lock w/ Flat BottomS496-W It is made of glass reinforced nylon which exhibits better wear characteristics than Delrin or aluminum. Specifically the guide hole for the pin will not wear out during the life of a socket. The S496W is used with either single or double laminations. |
ALPS Lock w/ 4 Hole PlateS496-T It is similar to the 496-W It includes a 1/4 aluminum plate which has a standard four-hole pattern for ease of attachment to the pyramid. S496-T is used with either laminated or thermoplastic sockets. |
ALPS Lock w/ Pyramid - S498-PUS Patent No. 5,507,837 It is made of glass reinforced nylon like the S496-W and S496-T. The 5498-P includes a pyramid integrated in the lock body design. Therefore it replaces three pieces: the lock itself, the pyramid mounting plate, and the pyramid, with substantial savings in time and money It is used in laminated sockets only, not recommended for thermoplastic sockets. The weight limitation for the 5498-P is 220 lbs(*) (100 kg). (*) NOTE: In order to meet the weight rating of 220 lbs, the socket must be fabricated in accordance with the instructions included with the S498-P. |
